I refuse to believe that a Silver Lab was an anomaly amongst pure breeding. Somebody, whether hundreds of years ago or modernly -considering the past only hundred or so years- has taken a Lab and crossed it with a Weim, trying to create a better gun-dog. Hence the "Silver Lab."
Looking at genes, there's no way for either of the colors to dilute to grey or silver, not yellow or brown, nor black.
As well, look at the similarities in body-type. "Silver" Labs tend to be thin and tall with wide ears and a droopy mouth. "Silver" pups look even more like Weim pups. Of course body type varies.
But the real kicker is the eyes. The bottom three pictures, from left to right are Pure Bred Labrador Retriever, "Pure Bred Silver" Labrador Retriever and a Pure Bred Weimaraner. Labs tend to have beautifully rich chocolate or amber eyes while Weims have these very ghost-like eyes that vary from an extremely light, almost milky green to a very pale amber.
Now look at the "Silver" Lab in the middle. Whose face does that dog have?
Maybe today "Silver" labs can be a result of a solid breeding between one Silver and another Silver, but that does not mean the color was a result of a pure breeding between labs. It's also very possible that unless you have personally met both parents with proof the father IS the father, you may be getting a first generation Lab X Weim.
And recently there has been a break between "English" and "American" Labs. Uh... I don't know who made this up but I'm pretty sure it's horse shit and just a way for someone to try and make their dogs seem superior.
I believe there's more of a 'field' and 'show' variety, and of course the field variety if probably going to more athletic.

To my knowledge a 'silver' lab is the result of the graying gene on a black coat but I could be wrong. That is what it has been explained to me as being. Nice information sheet though. These come from K9 sim?
